Overview

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust

In this class, we’ll see what we can see, generating ideas, images, and feelings we can use in our creative pursuits. This class will be more about exploring new ways of looking and making than it is about creating finished artwork. The goal is that you’ll come away with a head and heart full of ideas that will get you excited about making new work.

Skills we’ll spotlight include:

  • Seeing our surroundings with fresh eyes by overlaying and playing with key principles of art and design on what we’re seeing
  • Developing our own visual language by staying open to and curious about what we are drawn to visually, especially related to colors and composition
  • Increasing awareness of/how to take inspiration from abstract artists and designers past and present
  • Using simple art materials to express our personal visual language

  • Jessica Poundstone

Jessica Poundstone (she/her) is an abstract artist living and working in Portland, Oregon. Her work has been featured by Louis Vuitton, Dwell, Architectural Digest, SFMOMA and more. Jessica’s work explores the power of color, and is meant to help us get more deeply attuned to the joy, fun, adventure and wisdom that comes with exploring who we are and who we can become. www.jessicapoundstone.co
