Springing into Full Gear

We’re basking in the glow of the new season and hope you are too! Let’s catch you up on what’s been happening at Bodecker Foundation lately.

Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone who helped spread the word about our 2024 Scholarship. The response exceeded our expectations ten-fold. The  $2,500 scholarship is designed for up to 10 students looking to pursue studies in visual art, applied art, music, audio engineering, or writing at accredited post-secondary institutions this Fall. We’re excited to review the applications and share the incredible work of our awardees with you soon!

In other exciting news, two of our stellar students, Owen and Claudine from the SOUNDS cohort, recently had a fantastic opportunity to mix the song “Bye” for local artist Nasafaria during an open studio session. Not only did they gain valuable professional experience, but they also received well-deserved credit for their work! Our Cohorts are not just about skill development; they’re also fostering meaningful connections across schools while building impressive portfolios.

We recently wrapped up our Drawing for Tattoo workshop with Rialenga, where students had a blast experimenting with different drawing exercises like blind contour, using non-dominant hands, and creating exquisite monsters. It was a weekend filled with creativity and fun, and we want to extend our gratitude to all the participants!

Any music enthusiasts out there? We’ve partnered with Independent Project Records to bring you “Enter the Attic: An Evening with David J” on Friday, May 3, from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. See our unique space in a whole new light. Learn more at our Eventbrite.

Lastly, mark your calendars for May 1st. That’s when we aim to go live with our summer programming–a series of multiday, arts-focused workshops for students 14-18. We’ve got songwriting, soft sculpture, filmmaking, and more–stay tuned!

Enjoy the slivers of sunshine we have in store this week and take good care of yourselves.
