Happy Birthday, Sandy!

Happy March, friends!

Today, we commemorate what would have been the birthday of our co-founder, Sandy Bodecker. His spirit of fearlessness and generosity continues to inspire us at The Bodecker Foundation, where we strive to spark the creative power of young people. Sandy’s legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of our foundation, and it lives on through the students who benefit from the immersive learning experiences he envisioned.

Speaking of learning experiences, we’re always seeking teaching artists, designers, and musicians to lead workshops for youth aged 14-18 or to be a guest teacher in our cohorts. If you or someone you know has a knack for sharing artistic skills, whether in music, sneaker design, or any other creative field, we’d love to hear from you.

Just this past weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting Portland-based singer/songwriter Jake William Capistran to lead an immersive songwriting and recording workshop. Students progressed from brainstorming to lessons on songwriting and singing, all the way to the recording studio. Together, they brought their original ideas to life and collaborated to produce beautiful tunes.

Applications for our 2024 Scholarships are open until April 1st at 11:59 PM! We’re offering up to ten students $2,500 each to pursue their studies in visual arts, applied arts, creative writing, audio engineering, or music at accredited post-secondary institutions in the United States. Learn more about our scholarship program and spread the word to high school seniors in your life.

Lastly, The Bodecker Foundation is expanding, and we’re in search of a Director of Advancement to help drive our mission forward. Learn more about this role here.

Thank you for being a part of our growing community!
