Beats & Tracks with Tony Ozier

Want to make music in a real studio? Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll team up with other teens and a pro producer to create a beat and write a song from scratch. Whether you’re into hip-hop, pop, or electronic music, this is your chance to learn how the pros do it and have fun making something totally original. No experience needed—just bring your creativity and get ready to vibe in the studio!

Summer 2024

Lighting Techniques with Morgan Cooper

Date: August 15th and 16th, 2024
Time: 11:00 am–3:00 pm

Aspiring filmmakers! Learn from Morgan Cooper, the creative force behind Bel-Air. A writer, producer, and cinematographer, Cooper will teach the tangible skills of lighting. Get hands-on instruction in lighting in both studio and outdoor settings. Understand diffusion, composition, framing, lens choice, and subject position. Simultaneously, learn about Cooper’s journey into the film industry.

Watercolor Figurative Painting with Delbar Shahbaz

Date: August 5th–August 9th, 2024
Time: 10:00 am–2:00 pm

Total Number of Participants: 12

This workshop explores painting and drawing techniques while working from pictures of human poses. We will focus on painting figures of people from different races and ethnicities. We learn how to paint a variety of skin tones. We want to provoke a visual discussion about ethnic identities. Color theory, linear perspective, compositional structure, figure/ground relationships, and visual perception will all be emphasized. Students will be able to use watercolor and gouache techniques such as wash, wet into wet, and drybrush. For any student looking to grow in their painting and drawing skills.

Songwriting and Demoing with Lizzy Ellison

Date: August 5th–9th, 2024
Time: 2:00 pm–3:30 pm

Time: 10:00 am–3:00 pm
At Bodecker Foundation Wednesday, August 7th through Friday, August 9th

Total Number of Participants: 8

In this course, Elisabeth will lead with song-writing techniques to streamline the conceptual beginning stages, teach melody and lyric exercises, and share easy at-home recording techniques for creating the blueprint that will guide you throughout the demoing stage, and later in the recording process. Some musical knowledge will be beneficial, such as a basic ability with an instrument or vocal. If you have access to a computer or anything similar, we will be using free software that can be downloaded, but your phone can also work. Once we’ve completed the online portion of the workshop, we’ll be in person/in-studio to record your demos and discuss the possibilities when developing your work further. This course is for songwriters, singers, and instrumentalists interested in collaborating to write, record, produce, and perform.

Have you ever felt completely transported while reading a book, listening to a song or watching a film, as if you were one of the characters in the story, experiencing all that was happening, instead of simply following along? 

In this workshop with acclaimed artist, Deborah Stoll, you’ll learn how to craft transformational stories by thinking like a novelist, questioning like a journalist, and listening like a lyricist.

Whether you write fiction or nonfiction, journalism or poetry, songs or screenplays, this practice will teach you to tap into your surroundings in order to create unique, inspiring, and dynamic worlds.

There are only eight spots available so don’t wait!

In this workshop, participants will create sculptures using accessible materials such as fabrics, cardboard, found materials, and more. We will learn basic 3D skills and techniques like sewing, paper mâché, and color theory.

What is Soft Sculpture? Sculptures are composed of soft materials, such as rubber, latex, or cloth. Such works challenge traditional ideas about sculpture, namely work using materials like marble or bronze.
