Soft Sculpture with Jodie Cavalier

In this workshop, participants will create sculptures using accessible materials such as fabrics, cardboard, found materials, and more. We will learn basic 3D skills and techniques like sewing, paper mâché, and color theory.

What is Soft Sculpture? Sculptures are composed of soft materials, such as rubber, latex, or cloth. Such works challenge traditional ideas about sculpture, namely work using materials like marble or bronze.

Jodie's Bio

Jodie Cavalier is a conceptual artist living inPortland, Oregon. She earned a BA from theUniversity of California, Berkeley, and an MFAfrom Pacific Northwest College of Art inPortland, Oregon. She has work currently inview at Washington University, Vancouver, andhas exhibited work with Converge 45’sPortland’s Monuments & Memorials Project inPortland, OR; the Schneider Museum inAshland, OR; the deYoung Museum in SanFrancisco, CA; the Pacific Film Archive inBerkeley, CA; CoCA in Seattle, WA; Practice inNew York, NY; and Städelschule in Frankfurt,Germany; among others. She has participatedin residencies such as ONCA in Brighton,England; the Center for Land Use Interpretationin Wendover, UT; Wassaic in Wassaic, NY; andAZ West in Joshua Tree, CA.
